The New McLaren Has A Name and A Fresh Powertrain: The Artura Will Use A V-6 Hybrid System To Replace The V8

(By Tom Lohnes) –  Well it appears Mclaren is ditching their random mix of numbers and the letter S for their car names, as the second McLaren to be named after someone’s last name is upon us.

McLaren recently announced to us that their next supercar was going to be called the Artura. Apart from the name, the only thing divergent of McLaren’s supercar formula is its engine. All modern McLarens in the past have been equipped with a twin-turbo V8 with displacement ranging from 3.8 to 4.0 liters and power from 551 to 789. In the Artura, however, a V-6 hybrid system is employed, with output rumored to be over 600 horsies.

This would be very fast due to it replacing the 570S, which weighed a hair over 2,900 pounds. 0-60 should happen in under 3 seconds, and a top speed of over 200 mph is a given. Other signature McLaren features put to use on this car will be the “scissor wing” doors, DCT, and RWD.

Considering the 570S started at around $200,000, the Artura will probably be about $215,000. If they get anything about this car right, I’m sure they’ll have a bestseller.
