(By Tom Lohnes) – With the recent announcement of the Kia Carnival minivan coming to America, there’s also room for its cousin, the spaceship-looking Hyundai Staria.
With a 3.5-liter V6 under the hood, the Staria looks like it should be powered by a turbine. With one headlight stretching across the entire front end and a gaping grille below it, the Staria isn’t going to blend in with other vehicles at the school drop-off line. Inside sits a surprisingly luxurious interior, a staple of modern Hyundai’s. If the Staria makes Ii to the states, it will likely only be offered in 7-or-8-seat configurations, but with the Korean spec model, there can be an extra row added for a total of 11 seats. Talk about cramming people in.
Other than the styling and crazy interior layouts, the Staria is actually a pretty basic van. If it does make it here, it will be interesting to see how it sells compared to the Chrysler Pacifica, Honda Odyssey, Toyota Sienna, and even it’s far more conventionally styled cousin, the Kia Carnival. With it wearing a Hyundai badge, expect great standard equipment at a competitive price.
reminds me of the New Family Truckster in the Vacation Reboot …
