Shuttling The Boss: This 1989 Look Back At Presidential Limos Is Cool

Long before there was “The Beast” there were some pretty stock factory luxury cars hauling the President of the United States around. Really until the 1963 assassination of John F Kennedy, open top Lincolns, Packards, and other large lumbering beasts were the preferred method of hauling the boss of the country around.

America has long loved its Presidential car and we know that because pretty much all of them are kept in collections both public and private across the country. Heck, my buddy has Lyndon Johson’s presidential car and it’s in new condition. The role of the car that carries the President has changed over the years from being a vehicle that looked good in a parade to being one that could serve as a secure version of the Oval Office on wheels if a situation arose where that functionality was needed.

This piece was made in 1989 and the last thing we see is a 1980s Lincoln limo pulling away. Outwardly it looks like a stock Lincoln with the normal chassis stretch but with a 460 under the hood and years of applied knowledge for armor and protection, we’re thinking that the car we see is more than the sled that took kids to their proms across the country in 1989.

This is fun history!
