You know us, we love big stuff that turns. This 1980s boxy style Crown Victoria wagon that is all decked out in wood paneling hauls some serious mail around an autocross in this video. The wagon looks virtually stock from the exterior aside from a lower, more aggressive stance and a set of what look to be to be older Mustang Cobra wheels. The video description says that it was filmed back in 2007, which doesn’t matter to us other than we hope that the car is still together and terrorizing more “sporty” and expensive stuff at autocross events. This wagon sounds the business, too. It was most likely equipped with a 302 from the factory and we’re guessing it still has one albeit a version that has been warmed up a bunch from stock. The car has to weigh 42-4500lbs on a good day, so to act as agile as it does it pretty impressive to us.

Update: A commenter familiar with the claims that it is packing a 347ci stroker small block Ford engine, full interior, and Afco springs…hopefully shocks, too!

It sure would be fun to have a large car autocross showdown someday with machines like Buford T Justice, the upcoming Chicken Coupe, this wagon, and other agile fatties! Ironically we would have to specifically announce that modern pony cars are disallowed because they’re all pushing a couple of tons or better. Hell, maybe we should mandate bench seats for maximum hilarity factor. There’s nothing more conducive to high performance driving than when the steering wheel is also a handle necessary to anchor yourself in the seat. We know. We’re living that dream right now in Buford.

  1. Thy Name Be Pirate

    Not to rain on anyone’s parade…but that’s pretty much a stock Exploder 302 in there…not a 347. Some notes:

    1. The stock 8.8 rear end in this vehicle…same as the Mustang…isn’t suited at all to heavy cornering, as all the side-load goes straight to the differential. Minimum recommended rear? 9″ Ford.

    2. It really didn’t take much to make the car do this.

    3. There are much-better videos of this car floating around.

    4. The same guy owns it…but due to it being an East-coast car (it’s got rust), it might be parted to supply the necessary bits and pieces for another wagon…which is also in the driveway.

    5. That video was shot with the full-factory interior installed.

    Including the third-row seats.

Which aren’t really in a row.

    6. Any idiot with a similar car and a couple of dollars to play with could replicate this with ease…the front end works that well…provided you get the correct parts.

    7. Act now, as Cash for Clunkers…and $300-per-ton scrap have sent a hell of a lot of these to the wrecking yard. I personally have given up on ever finding another one (I’ve owned eight of these wagons), simply because there aren’t any left in the Pacific Northwest…or anywhere else for that matter.

    8. Since I’ll probably never get around to building another one…nah, there’s a few secrets I’ll keep for a bit longer.
