When it comes to guys that currently have the world by the tail, 18-year old Red Bull F1 driver Max Verstappen may lead the charge. The guy is literally a racing phenom competing on the highest level in the world when most of us were crushing beer cans on our heads and now he can claim that he’s the only guy to ever race an F1 car down a ski slope. This is Frozen Rush F1 style!
Unlike Frozen Rush in Maine, these guys had to literally helicopter the F1 car to the top of the mountain and then prepare it for the weather all the way up there. The crew installed studded tires and then put tire chains over top of the studded tires. All four corners had the chains on ’em and the only mechanical change made to the F1 machine was a ride height adjustment. You can see that the thing is about as rigid as a steel beam and it is tossing the kid around pretty hard inside. We’re not sure how much of this type of stuff a car like the one shown here could take. Sooner to later it would start breaking some of those expensive and exotic carbon fiber parts like control arms and others. While it is one thing to watch Max wheel the car down the slope, it is really cool to see how well it actually climbs the slope. Obviously the chains were an integral part of this stunt but they sure worked!
This is a great video and as usual Red Bull has the hammer lock on bad ass mechanical stunts. We’re out of words, you need to watch it yourself!
Thanks for the tip Ian!
That was dumb.
We Geordies drink Newcastle Brown Ale which comes in bottles so when I was 18 I used to smash them over my head and count how many I could break before I knocked myself out.
Then I’d probably have driven an F1 car down a ski slope…..
It is pretty cool (no pun intended of course) and a bit more press for Red Bull even if it’s a little silly. Not as silly as breaking Newcastle bottles over ones (numb)skull .
Pretty stupid. Not the stunt but the crap editing. All the slo-mo and close-ups don’t show me how it really looked. And a slo-mo minute of the helmet going on, awesome!
