There’s a certain stigma that comes with owning a super car. People think that you are some kind of jerk or that you are some kind of a wannabe racer that is just showing off to the general public. Those all stem from videos like this that show the owner of an Audi R8 absolutely face stuffing the thing into the steel guardrail at the Nurburgring. It seems as though he were trying to keep the little (what appears to be) Focus RS off his taillights when he made the mistake that likely totaled his car.
Watching the video seems to indicate a few things. We’re not 100% sure but we did some detailed analysis by watching the thing like three or four times. You may disagree but we welcome your interpretation of this scene as well.
What it looks like to us is that the guy came screaming into the corner way, way too hot. It looks like he realized this when the car was pushing. He appears to have lifted mid-corner, causing the car to rotate, he then dropped a tire off which accelerated that process and that is when the car shot across the track and ate steel. The airbags blow off and the thing left pieces of itself strewn clear across the racing surface.
Oh, the other thing. We’re guessing that this guy shut all the “nannies” off as well. It is humbling to admit for any car owner that you are not the pinnacle of racing excellence but this guy clearly was not. If you are a racer with a keen understanding of automotive dynamics and how things like a chassis and suspension work under extreme conditions, by all means shut the stuff off. If you are an enthusiast with a bad ass car, go as far as track mode because when you do that, a wreck like this is avoided by the car sensing the yaw and understanding what’s about to happen an then applying the proper brakes in the proper time to stop it from happening. The only way you get as jacked up as this guy is when you go all in and shut the whole program off.
Maybe we’re wusses for saying that but if it ain’t the truth convince us otherwise.
