The Petersen Automotive Museum in Los Angeles is really flipping awesome. The place is packed with amazing cars, it has the legacy of a man who can rightfully be considered one of the most influential automotive names of the 20th century behind it and with the right leadership it will continue on for a very long time. The one thing I did not have was a compelling look. To be blunt the place looked like a cold storage warehouse and not one of the great automotive collections in the country. That has all dramatically changed over the last 15 months as crews have transformed one of the most bland buildings you have ever seen into a dramatic sculpture of a place that is not just fitting for the neighborhood, it is fitting for the whole ethos of the place.
This time lapse video shows how it was done and how the museum will look when the grand re-opening of the facility happens on Monday. We’re sure you will be seeing LOTS about this place in the next few months as it is reborn in the eyes of the motoring public and we look forward to sneaking into the museum sooner rather than later in 2016 so keep your eyes peeled.
This video is a great look at the rebirth of an iconic hot automotive landmark. They really went whole hog!

Can’t miss it now, probably see it from space (kind of liked the warehouse look)
Hmmm…how does the new design relate to the automobile? Got it…it looks like a car crushed into a cube. Nice…(???). 🙂
So that’s what a tinfoil hat looks like on a building.
That’s a lot of money to spend on two weeks worth of headlines and a future redesign in 10 years once it gets really dated and weird/stale looking.
Rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic…
A better use of the money might have been some kind of investment in trying to save this hobby and get younger people interested in modified cars. Or trying to salvage the magazine & media machine that helped create his wealth.
