Copart Confusion: What The Heck Is The Story With This 1972 Buick Skylark?! Movie Car?

Copart Confusion: What The Heck Is The Story With This 1972 Buick Skylark?! Movie Car?

We have to thank BangShifter Robert Miller for tipping us off to the sale of this 1972 Buick Skylark on Copart. We also have to blame him for forcing us to stare at the car for hours and wonder what the hell this thing was modified to be. Mechanically it appears to be bone stock. The interior is bone stock. The exterior? Not so much.

With the most bizarre looking scoop we have ever seen glued to the hood (there is no inlet through the hood itself) and some sort of cheesy looking stainless steel covering over the stock headlights and stock grill area, it looks NOTHING like a 1972 Buick Skylark which is a bad thing in this case. Also the rear of the car has been modified with a flush mounted panel which contains the taillights.

So what’s the story? We have no idea but this thing has all the hallmarks of being an ex-movie car, likely not one that was in a top budget production but something that appeared in a B,C,D or J level film.

Listen, the car itself is great. It is clean, it appears to be largely unmolested outside of the easy to reverse body mods, and it’s the type of starting point that any hot rodder would love to kick off a project with.

What the heck do you guys think happened to it? Ever see the show or movie we suppose it was in?

The car was built for the live-action trailer for the video game Mafia 3. It was used in their promotional material and at the E3 press conference.

This is what a 50 lbs bucket of bondo will get you, and don’t forget you need a long beard to build an car now days.

Are you crazy it\’s a great starting point for a restomod. Who in their right mind would crush his car.

Am I the only one that sees a…. 65 Plymouth in the front grille area. Maybe not

I think I can hear the conversation with a beer buddy… “Hey what if we try this?”

Good starting point overall. Mostly there, mild \”damage\”.
Looks like a base model 2 door Skylark. But it IS a factory A/C car.
Knock the ugly off, new ignition and fuel system, and drive the wheels off!
