Uncle Tony Gem: A Brief History Of Time (and Why The PCV Valve Is Something The Government Got Right)

One of the neat things about actually knowing Tony DeFeo is understanding that his brain is a weird and wonderful place. It’s not a spot that tries to stifle or block out any wild conspiracy theories or weird ideas, and it is wholly accepting of some viewpoints that aren’t exactly mainstream. That being said, it is also chock full of history, mechanical knowledge, and context for how things operate, why they operate, and why some ideas, even those imposed by the government are good ones. Enter the PCV valve.

Over the last few weeks, Tony has been engaged in a pretty civil debate with the lot of people who believe that there is hiden efficiency to be unlocked in their engines by using various products of dubious scientific repute. As part of that program, there’s been some discussion about how the PCV valve was some sort of government conspiracy to rob engines of power and good mileage…or something. Lots of “suppressed knowledge” on the subject has been kept from the general public for decades.

In this video Tony talks about where the PCV valve came from, why it came to exist, the crummy road draft tube that preceded it, and why the PCV valve is a simple device that extended the lives of engines by an exponential after it was introduced. This is fun and interesting.
