New Hampshire has brought many great innovations to the world over the last couple hundred years but we’re not sure if any of them can top the snowmobile, which was invented in the 19-teens by a guy named Virgil White. This 1920 Ford Model T Roadster Pickup snowmobile actually uses an Ossipee conversion, named for the town where Why made them. Obviously the major factors here are the front skis and the tandem axle, and the rear tracks that allow the truck to effectively navigate through the snow and propel itself without getting stuck. Canadian BangShifter Ed Hohenberg sent us the tip on this bad boy which is for sale on Hemmings with an asking price of $28,500. It is pretty awesome.

Perhaps the neatest part of this whole rig is the fact that when it was restored, the only really decent parts of the snowmobile conversion were the Snowmobile logo and the steering spindles for the front skis. After that every other part was faithfully made form scratch to the exact standards that were used about 100 years ago. One fact that is stated in the ad is that White chose a 44-inch spread for the front skis and he used that number because it matched the width of the skis used on horse drawn sleighs which were the most common method of winter transport back them. Smart move!

The truck itself has been restored to a very high standard. The whole thing looks factory fresh and it is drenched in Henry’s favorite color, black.

One can only imagine what it was like in 1920 to be sputtering down a snow covered trail in this thing, stuck behind a clopping horse trudging along with a family in a sleigh. We’re guessing that passing was at a minimum. We can also imagine how awesome it was to load this thing down with firewood and haul it out of the woods in relative comfort as compared to the old way.
