This 1974 Jeep CJ7 Brush Buggie Is One Heck Of An Off Road Fire Fighting Rig And It Could Be Yours!

I’ve got to thank old school BangShifter Stiney for the tip on this awesome little firefighting rig called a Jeep “Brush Buggie”. Built by the company of the same name, it is a Cj7 that has been fitting with pumps and manifolds and hoses and 100 gallon water tank to respond to fires where larger trucks cannot get. This is a great looking truck as well and seeing that it is the department itself that’s selling the rig we’re pretty sure that the maintenance and upkeep on it has been top shelf. The tires look like 1970s vintage off road material, which helps to make the whole package that much cooler. While I had never heard of a Brush Buggie before, I fell in love the second I saw the photos and you probably did, too.

With only 4,535 miles on the clock, this truck was barely ever used. Either that or is fought a multitude of fires over the decades within earshot of the fire station. We’re thinking that it just didn’t go out on many calls. Still, for 40 years old, this is a fine looking Jeep. Not only do I like the cab, I like the fact that it has what looks to be water lines with valves on them running through it. You can see them through the windshield in some photos and the pipes are plain as day on the interior shots.

The engine is a 258ci inline sixer as you would expect. What’s neat about the pump on this truck, which sits on a platform ahead of the grill is that it’s run not off the crank of the Jeep but rather with a separate engine altogether. That engine is a 12hp Briggs and Stratton. The engine spins a pretty good sized pump and the Jeep comes equipped with lots of hose, all the sirens, lights, and everything else that keeps it totally awesome. I have always wanted a fire truck but I didn’t know my true love would be a Jeep fire truck! This is a neat rig.

To note, those miles are pretty spot on for a fire truck. None of ours have more than 8k on the odometer.

FYI. Looked at this today and the floor under that water tank is completely rusted out and the rear section of the frame is not far behind. That said, I’ll still be at the auction just in case

Reviewed my pictures and the pictures posted last night. The tank is literally sitting on the frame at this point. The rear view picture looks like the tank has dropped about an inch or more below where it should be. The connections between the tank and the pump are all rubber hoses, nothing hard piped; so I’m sure the thing still operates as intended but anyone thinking they’d get a pristine low mileage CJ5 would be disappointed.
