We’re going to cut right to the chase. This 1976 Cadillac Castilian station wagon, built by the long gone Traditional Coach Works in Chatsworth, California is one of the neatest things we have ever seen. The car is in amazing shape for being nearly 40 years old and never restored, it is packing the 500ci Caddy V8 under the hood (which was completely neutered by 1976 but that can be helped) and is one of an extremely short run of such cars built by the company in 1976. This car seems to be absolutely perfect in every aspect. The interior is minto, the brown 1970s paint is as good as it ever was, the hub caps even look fresh off the lot. Wondering why they named it the Castilian? We are too. Castilian is a word that refers to a dialect of the spanish language. We’ve got no flipping idea ever. Hey, it sounds sophisticated.
The seller claims that this is one of 16 cars ever but we’re not so sure on that. We have seen as many as 200 of these produced over a couple year period by Traditional Coach Works but there are no really hard numbers to lock onto, so we can’t 100% refute that claim. It may be one of 16 built like this one. We’d buy that all day and twice on Sunday. There are other Cadillac station wagon conversions but the thing that makes the Castilian unique among all of them is that it is the only one that does not use the station wagon roof off of another car to make the “wagon” dream come true. this wagon roof is hand formed to fit the body. That is why they were able to keep all of the stock factory Cadillac stuff out back. It is the best looking design for a Caddy wagon of this era that we have ever seen. Man, this car is cool.
The seller wants $18,000 and we’re 100% positive that you couldn’t build it for that money unless you did all the work at home and are a true craftsman. This may be the one car from 1976 that we’d be willing to pay $18k for. This is the basis for the greatest Pro-Luxury build of all time. A 1976 Cadillac station wagon. The whole thing is as right as rain.
Thanks to Trent B for the tip on this one!
Cool ride and much more reasonably priced than the Coupe the other day. You gonna get a Caddy sometime soon or something?
If I collected Cadillacs I’d take it. But with what I’d do with it the price is a little steep. I’d also have the purist out after my head.
really needs to be parked next to (towing?) a mid 70s N/FC, a good looking 76 Cad, who would of thunk it
Bummer trivia: Even with the Caddy’s age, it still has to pass a smog test every two years in California. (’75’s and later…)
Holy Crap, that’s near me. Tempted to go take a look at it (not that I could AFFORD it, but still)
Fatal flaws —
1. No third seat.
2. Rear window does not open.
3. Is there even a rear door?
2. and 3. are essential elements for a wagon. Otherwise incomparably gorgeous!
They forgot the Hurst option
Opps Hearst option
