(Thanks to Jay Spinella for the tip on this!) – Back in the 1970s GM hooked up with a company called Chinook to produce a factory option that was known as the Blazer Chalet on Chevrolets and the GasaGrande on GMC Jimmy models. By all accounts they were sold in small numbers and like most stuff from the 1970s, they have not aged all that well. Estimates on the internet speculate that there are probably less than 200 Jimmy CasaGrande models left floating around the country.
Of those handful that are left, this one has to be among the nicest, right? The 1976 Jimmy CasaGrande you are going to look at here is in like new shape and while we have shown you similar rigs in the past this one stands alone, especially when you consider how clean and new looking the camper unit is!
This truck has a rebuilt 350ci small block Chevy, a Turbo 400 transmission, and an NP205 transfer case. This particular truck also has some upsized tires and with a gearing change and some lockers, this rig would be pretty capable off road. As it sits now you’d be able to get away from it all and spend some time on your own deep in the woods. If you really wanted to head out into the nothingness, those added off road upgrades would be good.
Many of these trucks that we have seen look like they were used as meth labs but this one seems to have lived a charmed life. Both the driving and living quarters are in pretty good shape and the obligatory brown and cream 1970s paint job is also pretty good looking.
We’re not sure how this one survived so well but if you are looking for a cool off-road rig that has the potential to house you for days, we found it.
One sat not two blocks away under a grove of trees for years. It was greenish beige and covered by leaves…one could only guess what it looked and smelled inside. I past.
I’m gonna past too. Should be called grande feo.
You can’t see the orange shag carpet in the pics
