CL Find: This 1978 Trans Am Trar Could Be In The 2018 SEMA Battle Of The Builders If You Finish It!

CL Find: This 1978 Trans Am Trar Could Be In The 2018 SEMA Battle Of The Builders If You Finish It!

(By Greg Rourke) – I have a good amount of spare time which I often waste on Craigslist looking at stuff I don’t want or need. I recently ran across this creation and made the decision that it would only anger you, the loyal reader, and I shouldn’t expose you to it. But then Brian “High Interest” Lohnes featured another Firebird trar, and my mind was changed.

First off, you need to know a little about where this machine was built, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The U.P. is separated from the rest of Michigan by a large body of water, it looks like it should be part of Wisconsin. The residents are known as Yoopers, if you weren’t born there they just consider you a tourist no matter how long you’ve lived there. There have been semi-serious efforts to secede from Michigan and become the 51st state. The U.P. is very desolate, and the residents are very self sufficient, out of necessity. Hence, a Second Gen Firebird gets dropped on a Blazer chassis.

The seller admits it’s a work in progress, but he includes some body mounts and a bunch of steel to finish the floors, just weld ‘er up. It rides on new rubber and has a strong running 350 engine with a smattering of speed parts. For the 2k asking price, which is likely negotiable, it might be worth it for just the parts. Or finish it up and not take it to SEMA 2018.

“A custom built buggy”…wow! Since you are so close to Lake Superior…please drive it right in. The old saying that Superior ” does not give up it’s dead” makes me feel better.

  2. Chevy Hatin' Mad Geordie

Thankfully this complete pile of shit will have rotted away long before the next SEMA…….

One of my 1967 Camaros was slated to become a trar – fortunately the owner needed money to fight (and not making this up) a drug charge so I got it for a reasonable price. Used both sets of stuff but in different vehicles (the 4×4 stuff went under a blazer)

Build a trar/tarr get laughed at.
build a gasser (2wd trar) and get much love..
At least the 4×4 trar/tarr has a need to be that high
