(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – I think I have finally figured out why some of the pictures look better than others and have help up pretty well. Some were placed in acid-free photo album sleeves for many years and others were just stacked in boxes. When I began going through all my boxes trying to put photos into event collections the differences were stark, but I didn’t put 2+2 together initially to understand why. Of course when I took these photos I wasn’t thinking they’d be interesting to anyone but me 25-plus years down the road.
What we have here are a couple of Monster trucks basically vying for crowd rating to win the highest, most-spectacular leap which can clearly be distinguished as that of Bennett Clark’s ‘Clydesdale’.
The main show here was the pulling and it was 2wd Super Modified. Several big stars were in attendance, not the least of which was Jim Lyons and his ‘Stitches’ GMC. To round out the show one of those transformer-looking, robot things came out and put on a light, fire, and sound show that was pretty interesting. In the photo showing it the rig is pulling into the arena and there are some people in those seats above the doorway. Perhaps just a little crispy around the edges.

These actually look to be from 1991 or 1992, Clydesdale changed to the all-pink paint scheme after a rollover in 1990 at Cowboy Stadium, and in 1991 the USHRA bought out TNT Motorsports, that explains why there’s both a USHRA banner and a Red Man banner at the same event.
