2015 Diesel Power Challenge Week: Big Trucks, Big Power, Big Fun – Videos Start Now!

2015 Diesel Power Challenge Week: Big Trucks, Big Power, Big Fun – Videos Start Now!

One of my favorite weeks of the whole year is the one I get to spend in Denver hosting the videos for the Diesel Power Challenge. This is the event that Diesel Power Magazine puts on to gather some of the best and toughest diesel trucks in the country for competitions that range from a dyno challenge to sled pulling, drag racing, and trailer towing prowess. Each year, the readers of Diesel Power vote in the trucks that they want to see compete. There are spots allotted for Dodges, Ford, and GM trucks and the previous year’s winner gets to come back and try it again.

This year there was a contingent from Ohio that showed up and really brought the heat. The Cummins game was strong at DPC 2015 and there was another couple of trucks who were also shocking everyone but not for bad reasons. Two racers, Jesse Warren and Jaran Holder from Pennsylvania and Kentucky respectively came with very stoutly build Ford 6.0L combos. That engine is cursed and bad talked by lots of people and lots of the reputation it got was well earned through failures of things like head studs, EGR coolers, and other pieces that have resulted in lots of broken trucks and angry Ford owners. Those two guys brought the house though and as you will see over the next few days, made their presence well known.

This is the diesel guy version of drag week in the sense that you get a bunch of cool people together with stupid powerful stuff, you work it all to death, you thrash, and you find out just how talented and cool the gearhead community is. These guys all put in a lot of late nights and we always have some long days at this event but at the end of the week, people are really close and another group enters the DPC fraternity.

Now, let’s watch some of the meanest diesel pickup trucks in America lay down HUGE numbers on the unforgiving dyno at ATS Diesel Performance outside of Denver, Colorado. Combine the altitude with the Mustang MD1100 dyno and you have a recipe for struggle!

From all the reading and research I have done on the 6.7 liter trucks I have found that so far, they are great for the average tune/exhaust and done person. As far as making big power, the aftermarket really doesn’t have it fine tuned yet. There is only a handful of 1000+ horsepower 6.7L trucks in the country. With the way DPC has been the last few years, you need every bit of 1000 horse to make a showing….

There was one a couple years ago but that is the only one I have seen as yet.

You’ll be impressed with the performance of the 6.0 trucks!

I do have a soft spot for the 6.0. It had it’s share of issues, but it seems to pull the most astronomical numbers when built up.
