Ever wonder what happens when a huge piece of equipment suffers a tire failure in the field? Of course time is money, so people with these massive machines have spares that they can swap on so that the machine can get back to working. That’s great but there’s also the problem of the tire and what’s supposed to be done there. It seems completely insane that one of these monsters can actually fail or be punctured. They’re the size of a small building on their own, they weigh literally tons and they cost a bundle. The title of this video says that it is a $30,000 tire being repaired. Yowza!
So what’s the process? How does the thing get fixed? This is like helping pull a splinter out of an elephant’s foot. There’s some danger, a lot of work, and ultimately a happy result. You may not believe some of what you see here just because of how thick the rubber layer is on this used tire, the tools that the technician uses, and just how much sweat goes into saving this tire.
We have no idea what a guy like this gets for the job but we do know that it is way, way less than $30,000 like it would be to replace the tire. If it is a few hundred bucks or a grand, that’s the smart money in this situation.
