Buy Your Own 1942 GMC DUKW! You Could Be An Amphibious Tour Guide In A WW2 Icon!

If you’ve ever been to coastal cities like Boston, Seattle, and South Beach you’ve seen the Duck Tours. Hell, Pittsburgh and Austin also have them just to name a few. A Duck, or more specifically the GMC built DUKW, was a giant 2.5 ton 6×6 truck outfitted within a hull that allowed it to be one hell of a cool amphibious vehicle. Because they are a relatively plain big metal tub, customizing one to your needs is pretty easy as well. We found this one on Craigslist in Southern California and it’s in remarkable shape. It’s still not finished, but it sure would be a killer project for someone and doesn’t look like it needs horrible amounts of work.

Plus, when it’s done you can go hang out at the lake with it or cruise the harbor at Newport Beach! I’m sure the yacht owners would love the parties you would throw on this sucker!

Take a look, and when you make your fortune as a Duck tour guide, remember who the guy was that told you to buy this thing.

If it fails, it was Brian who wrote this.

Here is what the seller has to say about it:

1942 G.M.C. D.U.K.W. WW2 Amphibious 2.5 ton 6X6 truck and DUKW trailer. This DUKW is in great shape and does not require much hull repair to be in sea worthy condition. This is a original hull no replating or patching has been done and none is required in the sides of the hull. It has been sand blasted inside and out, primed and painted. The original 270 GMC straight six has been re built and never started. The radiator has been re cored as well. The DUKW has most of the parts to get her put back together including the CTIS hubs and windshield. I have a clean title. I also will include a extremely rare Cleaver Brooks DUKW trailer 1 of 7 in existence. The trailer will need full restoration and is missing parts. I will also include some drawings from Cleaver Brooks.

The DUKW is located in Newport Beach, California . (949) 244-5337

  1. Chevy Hatin' Mad Geordie

Put in a blown and injected Hemi or a stonking great turbo’d Detroit Diesel and go out scaring everybody that has anything that floats. In fact you could make a stack of money by charging your passengers 10 times what they paid to get on this thing just to get off it. I’ve always loved DUKWs and remember riding in one at Whitley Bay on the North East coast of England when I was just a little laddie.

But it didn’t pack a Hemi..

Chad…on the 4th of July weekend you could have pointed out how essential the DUKW or “Duck” was to WW 2 in the Pacific and Europe. It was more than just cool. Have a safe and reflective 4th.
