This 1984 M1009 Military Blazer Is How Chevrolet Should Have Built Every K5 Blazer

We tend to look at military trucks on Craigslist and eBay so that we can dream about yet another vehicle to add to our list of must haves. The typical M35 is of course a staple, as who doesn’t love a Deuce and a Half? But we also dig European and Eastern Block trucks of all kinds. But no matter how cool they are, there is a special place in our hearts for the M1009 Chevrolet Blazers. These normally 1/2 ton models that everyone loves as the K5 are considerably beefed up for Military use, depending on the year and options.

But this particular 1984 Chevrolet M1009 is just what we like.

It’s a 6.2L diesel, which on it’s own does nothing for us, but because of the year it is a non-smog diesel in California. So while it is not legal, nobody will be checking on it to know if we swap in a big block, LS, Cummings, or whatever makes our heart go pitter patter. It’s also equipped with a locked Dana 60 and 14 bolt which makes it bulletproof, and the hmmwv (Hummer) wheels are absolutely right for this thing.

But it’s what the seller has done with these things that makes it greater. The Off-Road Designs lift is only 4 inches, but includes a shackle flip that makes this truck articulate MUCH better than stock. Crossover steering is another big upgrade, and the inside is setup with good seats and a roll bar. Add a CB, stereo, PA, and more and you have a comfortable cool off-road capable rig that we would love to park in the driveway.

I have an original rear seat with a rollbar in the back. Truck has a CB, light bars, a PA system, a stereo with 4 6×9 pioneer speakers. Will include some extra military truck parts that I have for it as well.

A 6.2L diesel does nothing for you? You have never drove one with the pump turned up. I have a 6.2L 4WD K-19 with a 8 lug swap on the coprate 10 bolt front 3.73 and a Posi 14 bolt FF 3.73 rear. With 35×12.50×16.5 B.FG M/T;s. A Rebuild and improved TH700R4, hardened sun shells, Corvette servos, Severe duty clutches, ect. I could put the 208 Transfer case in 2WD and power brake it on dry asphalt.

Since the truck I had was Junk Yard spring lifted (14 leafs per side rear, 6 one ton leafs front). ) I could tow a lot before squatting. I hit my head on the roof crossing rail road tracks at 10mph.. but.. I moved a 55-60 foot Mobile home type Office unit for a buddy. The shipper would not put it on it’s pad because of soft ground. I did it. The video of it didn’t record right on my little digital camera I had in 2006. Yet I walked that thing threw ankle deep mud my front wheels in the air. With a all stock 6.2L Civilian motor with the injection pump turned up. A mil-spec 6.2Lwill take More abuse.

With parts from a 6.5L TD you can TD a 6.2L. Mostly exhaust, the turbo, if you use the newer throttle body a 95-86 van 6.5TD throttle by wire peddle (I have one).

I hate Cummin diesels. I hate seeing idiots put them in GM vehicle. If you want to upgrade a GM put in a Detroit or put in a Cat diesel.
Also Those 6.2L Diesels just like the 6.5 & the 6.6L Duramax were built at Truck-and-Buss/later Moraine Assembly in the GM/Detroit Diesel Engine plant side in Moraine (Dayton) Ohio.
