Spectator drags are a phenomenon we can’t believe is a thing that is not only allowed, but encouraged. We can’t imagine the kind of waiver you must sign to run your own vehicle, and we can’t understand where the name drags came into it since this is paved oval racing. But lets not worry about the semantics. This stuff is fun to watch if hard to believe. And when you make the spectators drive nothing but trucks, only good things can happen.
There are a couple different kinds of people that race in the spectator drags. Those that want to win make up about half and then those that just want to get sideways and do donuts make up the other half. Approximately 80 percent of the sideway crowd will crash or get stupid close to crashing. About 25 percent of the guys trying to go fast will also crash or get reach close. So, there is a pretty good chance of carnage.
How more sheetmetal wasn’t crunched in this video will remain a mystery to me. You gotta watch this.
I would not want to share a racetrack with anyone as crazy as the drivers you see in half the spectator drags videos on Youtube.
The announcers sounded lik they were onto their second 12 pack of beer.
Which is probably similar to some of the drivers.
