The King Is Dead, Long Live The King: Toyota Brings More Horsepower, Luxury and, Capability In Next Gen Land Cruiser

The King Is Dead, Long Live The King: Toyota Brings More Horsepower, Luxury and, Capability In Next Gen Land Cruiser

(By Tom Lohnes) – Well folks, the latest version of the faithful Toyota Land Cruiser is here, and it is definitely a controversial one.

Coming in two flavors: the on-road focused, luxurious model that looks rather…interesting, or the really cool looking off-road focused variant that looks like it could drive anywhere on the planet. Both of these models are on Toyota’s TNGA platform, this version of it modified to fit the dimensions of Toyota’s flagship SUV and the upcoming Toyota Tundra. Under the hood is a 3.5-liter Twin-Turbocharged V6 good for 409 horses, and making it the most powerful production Toyota ever made. All of this power travels to all 4 wheels through a 10-speed automatic, so that should resolve the previous generation’s thirst.

With the recent departure of the current-generation Land Cruiser here in the US, is this one coming? I sure hope so, because it is a very cool vehicle, and also basically any type of SUV sells great here in the states. With a new powertrain, a much nicer interior, and improved tech, I feel like this body-on-frame bruiser would be a great fit here, as long as it wears a decent price tag.

But, that’s the thing. With the last generation car, Toyota decided to pursue the Mercedes-Benz G-class in terms of pricing, and that didn’t go too well for them. So, hopefully they learn from their mistakes, because this thing is awesome.
