Taking 10 lug big rig wheels and putting them onto one ton dually trucks is nothing new. It’s been happening for several years now, and there are a few companies out there that make the adapters. The way that the adapters work is to bolt on in place of your factory wheel with the stock 8 lug nuts, and then that adapter has 10 studs sticking out of it for the big rig’s 22.5 or 24.5 inch wheel to bolt to. They are steel, they are strong, and they are proven to work. These are not cheap aluminum adapters that you hear the horror stories about. In order to run this type of wheel on most duallies, you have to machine the wheel slightly on both the rim lip and the bead seating surface in order to convert the wheels to run either a 22 or 24 inch tire. That’s because big rig tires are HUGE and won’t fit under most duallies. There are also issues with wear, ride quality, etc. as a result of those tires being designed to work under tens of thousands of pounds of load.

But there is another issue with trying to run the 10 lug wheels on a lot of trucks, and that is the width. They stick out. Like bad. It’s ugly and wrong in my opinion. There are ways to fix that though, and they involve buying the right wheel, and having it machined correctly while it is getting the diameter changed for your 22 or 24 inch tire. That machining happens on the mounting face of the wheel. Because they are such heavy duty wheels, they have incredibly thick mounting faces that can easily be machined thinner so as to pull the wheels into the fender farther so they don’t stick out. This is especially important on trucks that are lowered far enough to tuck the wheel, you know, like God intended.

In this video the dudes at Horsepower Depot get their big rig wheels on with a kit from Dually King Industries. They are built to order for your application and are available as a set of 6 complete wheels, or 4 that use your stock steel inners. This is not uncommon by the way, and many big rigs run steel inners and aluminum outers.

Watch, and drool over their cool standard cab, long bed, square body dually.
