Everyone knows I’m a huge fan of ramp trucks, and so is Mike Finnegan. He’s owned several, gave Newbern the bug so bad he’s building his own, and now he wants to haul more than one car with his. I’ve known several racers who hauled one on the ramp truck and another car on an open car trailer behind it, but Finnegan want’s to take it to another level. Like a 30 foot enclosed trailer level. What do you think, will this be sketchy? Or will it work?
Watch what he does to make this a reality.
Video Description:
Episode 263 of Mike Finnegan’s Garage is all about our long term tow pig, the OG Roadkill ramp truck. This 1973 Chevrolet R30 crew cab dually has all the mods; we’ve swapped a Cummins 12 valve 6BT diesel in place of the old 454 Big Block V8, we’ve replaced the old three-speed TH400 automatic trans with a Dodge 47RH four-speed automatic with a lockup converter. We’ve added rear airbags to the leaf spring suspension, and switched from stock 16 inch wheels to aftermarket 19.5 inch wheels from Michael’s Truckworks. The cab has been fully restored inside and out. The only things we’ve havent really touched on this old school hauler are beneath the ramp bed and it’s time to replace a seemingly unsafe trailer hitch by fabricating a beefy one that will be up to the job of towing doubles. That’s right, not only are we going to continue hauling cars on the bed but we are also going to drag a 30ft long enclosed trailer behind this truck! In this video we’ll show you the tools and techniques we used to seriously beef up the back end of our Chevy.
