Chassis Swapping A Crew Cab Squarebody Onto A Dodge Cummins Chassis Part 2

Chassis Swapping A Crew Cab Squarebody Onto A Dodge Cummins Chassis Part 2

We shared Part 1 of this chassis swap a few days ago and now it is time to start building body mounts. Doing chassis swaps is not necessarily easy to do correctly, and is especially hard on a 2 wheel drive truck, or one that doesn’t have a big tire on it. If the frame of the donor doesn’t follow the same contours as the body you are swapping onto it it can cause issues and in general they can look pretty clunky if you don’t put the right thought and fabrication into them. I’ve done chassis swaps, very successfully in fact, but in many cases I find using the floor from the donor chassis is also a great way to insure the fit is great. This however is not always possible, or practical.

In Part 1 the stripping of both trucks and some test fitting were in order, but in Part 2 the two become one at least with regards to body mounts. Because this is a 4×4 chassis, it is going to sit up a bit higher and so that arguably makes fitting the chassis easier. If it were a two wheel drive it would need to sit lower on the chassis which would require modifying the chassis or a floor a bit to lower the entire thing down another couple inches.
