I went to a couple of tractor pulls when I was a kid and thought they were epic. Whether big or small, the tractors doing the pulling were loud and obnoxious and everything a drag racing kid wanted to see and hear except the tire smoke. But one of my favorites were always the Mini Rods. They are tiny, we’re talking little, but built with a tube chassis and one seriously pissed off powerplant out front over tiny little front tires. They have the most power to weight of anything in the pulling world and they make big steam in a hurry. Their runs are quick, loud, and sometimes catastrophic. What’s funny too is that some of these combinations are so short that the driver’s feet are on each side of the engine. There is some serious shielding going on there, because if one kicked the rods out you’d lose a foot like Garlits!
Watch this video and enjoy the pure power and performance, but also look at just how violent one of these can be when things go horribly wrong. Ouch.
Would you want to strap in to one of these for a pull? I would, but I’m not going to lie, I’d be a little scared.
