1947-1955 GM Trucks are cool rides and make great hot rods. They look great, are easy to work on, and have tons of aftermarket support from the ground up. In fact, you can now buy a completely new body for one of them. But if you have one already, there are lots of resources for parts and pieces. From 1947 to 1955 the changes that happened on these trucks are minor, but one of the most defining body differences is between the 3-window and 5-window cabs. The 5-window has cool corner windows on the back of the cab and those original 5-window cabs sometimes go for more money.
But what if you have a 3-window and want it to be a 5-window? How do you make this conversion happen? Check out this video and you’ll see.
Video Description:
Hello, in today’s video, we will be doing the 5-window conversion on our 1953 Chevy 3-window cab. This procedure will work on all 1947-1955 first-series Chevy or GMC trucks. Due to rust and dent damage, this video will be part 1 of 2 and will focus on cutting and welding in the exterior window openings. The second video will involve welding in the inner structure and test fitting all the glass. Rather than spending money on the aftermarket kit that is available, I will be completing this swap with all oem parts. Also, due to popular demand, I will be utilizing the Unispotter to demonstrate how to metalfinish a dent using the Pennsylvania Porcupine technique.
