Rock Bouncing In Texas: Flying Free In Rough Hill Country

Texas is massive. You could fit ten European countries within the borders. You could have snow near the Oklahoma panhandle, tropical weather down near South Padre Island, and around Killeen, you can bet that the moment the convoy leaves to head into the training areas of Fort Hood, that the weather is going to go to hell in a handbasket….at least, that’s my experience with the place. You get a broad section of the country and you get a broad section of geographical layouts as well. Rocky hills aren’t out of the question, and where rocky hills are present, rock bouncers will inevitably show up and show off.

The Southern Rock Racing Series recently hit up the Northwest OHV park near Bridgeport, Texas for one of the stops on the 2020 calendar and in their usual format of flight and violence, they came out to compete hard. The relative lack of trees seemed to leave drivers emboldened, because most of them just went for speed instead of finesse…if you can associate that word with a flight-capable four-wheeled middle finger to gravity. One bouncer in particular did raise some eyebrows: Tim Cameron’s “Menace” showed up sporting independent front suspension instead of the usual overkill straight axle.
