We’ve been following a Unimog Expedition vehicle build on here recently, and I have repeatedly said how much I dig them. They are amazingly utilitarian but also incredibly trick in how they work. Portal axles, coil spring suspension, articulating beds, the ability to go forward and backward in multiple gears, etc. They are in many ways a tractor and in many ways a purpose built off-road rig. If you look at newer and newer Unimogs you’ll find incredibly cool features, like the ability to move the steering wheel from one side of the cab to the other by a really cool sliding mechanism that moved the pedals, steering wheel, and all controls. And like I said, reverse and forward were independent of the actual gear that the Mog was in for a lot of the Unimogs produced. And with giant winches included on some, locking diffs front, rear, and center, and room for just about any tire you want, these suckers will go anywhere.
And apparently, if setup right they will take most any other off-road rig to town. Just watch the video below where the guys take one all over Johnson Valley during King of the Hammers this year and show everyone else up. Is there anything that can keep up with one of these? Watch this special Bilstein Shocks Mercedes Unimog eat up the rocks.
