So the dually blog war is in full swing now. Both Bryan and I fired our opening shots yesterday and we’re back today. Since he started off with a heavy duty truck, I’m following up with one here and this thing is sweet. Bought by a body shop in 1957, this truck has lived in the back corner of the shop for the better part of 30 years and that comfy spot preserved the thing in a way that we’re pretty sure no other original 1954 Ford F600 is in. The truck still has the 239ci Y-Block V8 engine, and all of the awesome rounded looks from the “big job” era of trucks. The wheelbase seems to be exactly the same as my own wrecker and that means the look is perfect. A short, compact bulldog of a truck it pushes all the right buttons for me.
The seller claims that the truck only has a shade over 47,000 miles on it and from the looks of the interior alone we believe him. I’m betting that this was used as a local recovery truck for the shop and never ventured too far out of its suburban Wisconsin home. Being that it was operated by a body shop and not a gas station it was probably better taken care of because we all know how anal those body guys are about their stuff. Hell, the tires look like they have been on the truck since LBJ was in office and the simple panel style paint looks like it may have been applied even before that. The big push bumper makes my little heart flutter all on its own.
The only thing I can be somewhat critical of is the asking price which is hovering near $10,000. Even for a guy like me who loves all things with booms on them, that seems like stiff money. Now, if I had $10k, I’d own this baby!

Is there a website for people who “cheat” on their wreckers? Or is it just “wrecker envy”? 🙂
Always preferred old ’50s Ford trucks over their GM counterpoints. This thing is absolutely bitchin’.
