We’ve shown videos over the years of the off-roading psychopaths in Finland who seemingly can drive their purpose-built machines over damn near anything, including water. The basic premise is simple: stout suspension, huge paddle tires at all four wheels, and one seriously cranked-out V8 providing the power. Adding a VW Beetle body to the mix shouldn’t affect anything drastically from the formula, should it? It certainly sounds the part, and a couple of near-shore runs show that it seems to be able to do the trick. But when you’re looking at the wide portion of the pond through the windshield, we have to imagine that there is a pang, a sense of doubt. Maybe it is a sense of preservation for the expensive engine…maybe you just don’t want to swim to shore to grab the tow rope. Ah, well…when in doubt, floor it!
