It’s GO TIME! Practice is over, qualifying is done, and the only thing left to do is to pit nine of the best truck racers in the world against each other in the most weird, awesome, and unique format that the sport has ever seen. Ricky Johnson lead qualifying yesterday and comes into race day on the pole. What makes this event so awesome is three fold. The first is the location. Mount Snow in Newry, Maine is a legendary east coast ski resort and they give up a couple of their trails every January in order for them to be transformed into an off road course. This year there has not been much snow in Maine so the going opinion is that by the time the final round it run, the trucks will have chewed it down to dirt and things are going to be completely off the wall. The second thing is the fact that every competitor at Frozen Rush has been a champion in their careers.Whether we’re talking a short course champ or a Baja champ, all of these guys have turned the trick. The third thing? The tires!
900hp Pro 4 trucks normally do not run on huge tires with spikes in them but because of this race being what it is, BF Goodrich developed the tires and the spikes, employing a Swedish company to install ’em and prepare the final product. The result is a look straight out of Hellraiser and traction straight off of a drag strip. These trucks accelerate, stop, and turn like nothing we have ever seen on this surface.
Tomorrow 10-15,000 people will pack the slope here in Maine but you can watch in the comfort of your own home. Click on the image below and you’ll be brought to the Red Bull live stream of the race. Trust us when we tell you that you gotta check this stuff out. It is beyond awesome and what else are you going to to this afternoon? Work?!
