I am a standard cab dually guy. I like that configuration the best for reasons I have trouble explaining in great detail. I just like the way trucks like this 1977 GMC Sierra 3500 Camper Special look because they are shorter than their crew-cab brethren and they just have this kind of bulldog look to them that I think is cool. I also like my dually trucks, especially the old ones, looking mostly stock and this fills that bill as well. Yes, it was painted from red to blue, and yes it now has some 16-inch wheels on it but other than those two things, the big block is original, all the trim is original, and interior is as well. Hell, it still has the original exhaust on it! Yes, this truck is from California and is being sold there. We hate ’em too.
Kicking the coolness of this truck up some is the fact that it is a camper special model so there are subtle touches to the outside of the rig to let you know that it was built to hail a beefy slide in camper that were all the rage in the 1970s. Under the trucks the chassis has been beefed up with additional springs in the rear suspension and up front, big sway bars, and this truck was actually equipped with the deluxe version of the Camper Special package because it has the anchoring tie downs for the slide in as well. This truck likely hauled someone on some neat trips back in the day. With only about 110,000 miles on it since new, most of those trips were obviously close to home.
The final thing that is making us lust for this rig outside of the 454ci engine and Turbo 400 transmission is the fact that the only issues with the truck involve stuff like fixing a door handle, a speedo, charging the AC, and maybe a brake booster down the line. The reality is that you could get in it and cruise it right home…which we would totally do if we ad th $5,000 asking price. We know you have it, though. Buy this truck!

And ripe fodder for an anti-Chevy guided missile!
I’d rather eat my own hair and live on bedbugs (yum yum!) than soil my garage with this hunka shit….
That’s what only 2 cups of morning coffee can do to a man I guess…
I like no love it. Old school kool.
I had a ’78 Chevy Camper Special Duallie….it was kinda tired when I got it, and I ran it to death! But, it was a cool truck and so it that one above!
I live less then 20 miles from it, think I will see if I can look at it, have cash
Salvage Title killed it for me
I just scored something similar – our “new” 1993 F350. Nearly a barn find.
