Back in the days of bootlegging, crafty guy modified their cars to haul moonshine and outrun the law over treacherous mountain and country roads. This car has absolutely nothing to do with any of that but it is a fun story, so there. We have thank Craigslist surfing maven ElkyGuy for finding this absolute freakshow of a 1989 Jaguar which was modified with the tasteful addition of part of a 1980s El Camino bed. We do not know why this was done but we do know it was done in an amazingly professional manner. Nothing about this is right, but boy is it well done.
Can you imagine the conversation between the customer and the body guy when this was suggested? How many shops sent the guy packing before someone agreed to do it. The car is immaculate as it only has like 17,000 miles on it. Powered by the famed Jaguar DOHC inline six, it may not be the fastest thing around but at least it does not have one of those V12s in it that cornered the market on reliability issues during the 1980s and 1990s. The photos of the thing are not the greatest but you get the whole idea by the time you are done looking.
We dig the fact that nothing was messed with in the passenger area and that max comfort and luxury were retained in there. This guy must have been some sort of rich rancher/farmer dude who wanted the ability to treat guests the right way while also being able to move hay bales or perhaps pick up manure in a dignified way. Hell, we can’t figure it out but we do kind of like it.
As the ad may go any any time, here’s the text:
This is probably the only one of these in the world.
It belongs to an Eccentric 81 year old family friend, and is part of a unique collection of cars. He is having some health issues, and is asking me to help him sell some of his many cars acquired over the years.
This is a 4-door Jaguar, owned by a Superior court judge for many years, and has only 16,000 original miles. Runs great. Looks great. Has a straight 6 cylinder motor, which was one of the more reliable Jaguar motors.
Wood gain accents, serving trays on rear of front seats, power everything, sunroof.
Also, has a tonneau cover for rear El camino bed.
Want to have something nobody else has? This is it….
Amazing! – if it had a lifting bed cover it would look almost stock!
It’s based on a XJ40 shell as the whole bed is worth more than the car its grafted to – but the build quality must make the car worth at least 2 bucks!
I’d lose the hideous wires and replace the stock rims though…..
I love it!
It needs a big Roots screw poking out of the hood, then you could pass it off as a drift car from AUS that’s been converted to LHD.
I wanted to hate when I read the headline, but what else would you do if you had a bit of talent, beer and were stuck with that gawdawful turd of a car.
