Dakar 2016: Sébastien Loeb Loses Lead After Crashing Out On Stage Eight

(Lead Photo: Motorsport.com) Sébastien Loeb’s first Dakar Rally was looking very promising. The 41-year-old driver, who has won in World Touring Car Championship, World Rally Championship, has placed second overall at LeMans in 2006, among other ventures, was running very strong on his first Dakar, leading several stages and looking to make an impressive finish, but a rollover accident on Stage Eight has ended the chance for an overall victory.

Per Motorsport.com, Loeb was 10 kilometers from the end of the stage when he drove into a dip that he was not expecting, which upset the balance on his Peugeot 2008DKR16, sending it into a roll. He was able to get the car moving again, but at the expense of two wheels and a transmission, which cost him plenty of time. But overall victory was only going to be the icing on the cake. According to Loeb, “It’s finished for overall victory. I still have to take the experience. We came here to get experience first and foremost. It was only 10 kilometres from the end of the stage. It’s a bit frustrating, but that’s life, so we have to continue now.
