If you’ve been reading BangShift for any length of time you know that our unabashed love of two stroke Detroit Diesel engines is often showcased. Today is another of those days because we found video of an awesome modified 6V53 Detroit that is going into a Chevy 1-ton truck, backed by a damned Roadranger transmission and a transfer case as the truck is 4WD. These guys have bolted a big Whipple screw blower to the top of the engine, fabricated up a drive and tensioner system, actually figured out how to make the Jake-brake work, and are testing this engine on some wooden cribbing in the middle of their shop. These are some awesome dudes!

Eyeballing the supercharger, it looks to be about a 4.oL unit. That’s what you’d find in kits for LS engines, modular Mustangs, etc. Ironically, the supercharger is probably only making a couple lbs of boost here because these two stroke diesels relied on blowers to move fresh air into the cylinders. Lots of the intake charge is being blown right out of the exhaust. Obviously the situation is different in four stroke gas engines, but this ain’t one of those! Let’s say that supercharger is making about 5psi as it is set up. If we had to guess, the owner of this engine is going to stack a turbo or two on top of that and then we’d really be talking about some snot. There are dudes running 50+ lbs of boost through these engines with similar compound setups out there. With that type of atmosphere being jammed in there and a large volume of fuel, we’ll be talking about a truck with some insane power.

Even though the thing isn’t making huge power currently, it is still freaking awesome to hear the wail of a two stroke Detroit fighting the scream from the Whipple blower for auditory supremacy!
