Here’s a sweet roadside find from the road on Drag Week 2014 that we ran into yesterday at a route checkpoint. The truck was kind of hidden in the back but once my wandering eye caught it, I knew that I needed a “minute” with the slumbering Chevrolet. The truck is a 1957 Chevy 3800, meaning that it is a one ton with a 9,600 GVW. I do not have any specific information on the make or model of the awesome aluminum exterior camper body that is on its back. The inspection/maintenance panels were removed some time ago so the guts of the operation are easily accessible for either work or stealing parts off of. The truck showed the kind of amazing weather beaten patina that people try to replicate now on their own. It was not a rush bucket, it was just showing its age.
I looked at everything on the exterior of the truck and under it but I didn’t have the guts to pry the back door open. Who the hell knows what would have greeted me there! The interior is aged as are many of the components under the truck but I wouldn’t be too freaked to hit the open highway with it for you to drive home. It would be a slow, cramped, loud, and hot drive. Kind of like what the competitors on Drag Week are suffering through this year!

55 or 56 front end . The only difference in 55-56 is the color of the park light lens.
57 had different grill, hood & fenders where grill attached.
It’s a ’55. The ’65 has a different hood ornament and the fender badges are different (2 piece instead of 1 piece) and are located above the fender crease. The park light lenses are the same ’55-’57.
Quick edit, that should say “56”, not “65”.
Top speed …what…60… Kinda loud, and unruly, yeah I am all in. My dogs are all in, my wife… well, might take some more convincing. Beautiful

With brakes & a heart transplant, would be a great hauler or bangshift mobile command center.
Wouldn’t have to be anything exotic or high end in engine… a warmed over 350 with an OD trans would do it.
Of course I really want to see somebody put an 8.1 in an old full-ton. Just a thought.
