Sweet mother of mechanical mercy, this is the craziest engine dynoing failure we’ve ever seen. It’s gnarly enough that parts of the bottom end, perhaps a chunk of the crank even, crash into the camera. It’s a diesel V6 which we believe is officially called a Mercedes-Benz OM501LA. This is 400+hp engine used in big trucks. After what happens to it in this video we’re assuming it was melted back down to molten metal and reformed into something less dangerous, like a lamp.

Pay attention and listen to the engine as all seems to be going well and then in the blink of an eye, the revs head for the freaking moon. We cannot tell is this was some sort of destructive testing procedure of it the thing just puked its guts out for no reason. Either way, this video definitely redefines the term “disaster”. Unbelievable.
