The other day we showed you a custom built V-twin that spun to 12,000 RPM and made 120hp which was designed for use in modified garden tractor pulling. Today we’re showing you another small engine destined for a pulling garden tractor but this is a single cylinder, flathead job that will be used in a difference class. According to the description on the video, this is a break in run of a new engine and it is held a 6,000 RPM while making over 70hp. Amazingly, that’s more hp than the first Ford flathead V8s made!
What we dig about this video, other than the cool roar of the exhaust from the engine is the fact that it is running so rich and creating such heat on the exhaust side of things it turns the exhaust pipe on the dyno into a cherry red tube that ends up barfing some pretty good licks of flame at the end of the video when the motor is throttled back. The engine is fired by an MSD ignition and uses a single carb. It is powered by methanol.
You can literally watch the heat travel up the pipe as the engine is held at 6,000 RPM by the dyno while running at full throttle. This little bastard is doing some work!
Hit the link below to watch 70hp of single cylinder fury try to melt the exhaust off the dyno!
