General Rule: This 1987 GMC General Has A 35 Ton Wrecker On Its Back And Our Heart

Sweet baby towing company is this truck fantastic! From 1977 to 1987 General Motors was in the big truck business. The Chevrolet Bison and the GMC General were the machines they sold and it was the General who appropriately lead the whole program. The Bison debuted in 1977 and was discontinued in 1981 because GMC Generals were outselling them so badly. We found this 1987 GMC General for sale on eBay and the thing is immaculate, has a 35-ton wrecker on its back and is generally the kind of dream rig we would love to have. The seller of the truck seems to indicate that it gets worked day in and day out as he is selling it to buy a larger unit.

The engine in the truck is a 300hp Cummins, it has an eight speed transmission and the wrecker unit not only has a Challenger 35 ton boom but also a Zach under reach unit, making it as capable as any modern truck out there. Sure it may not have the massive power of a new truck but if you wanted to hot rod that Cummins there are plenty of parts and ways to do that.

It is always awesome to us to see trucks that have been treated this well their whole life. Obviously most working rigs get beat into the ground by the time they are done but a few, like this one, live life like a hard working Clydesdale horse. Fed, groomed, and treated properly they look great and still go out there and grind out the work.

I don’t have $50,000 for this truck and frankly a guy like me owning it would be a shame. This big fellah can still earn its keep every day and it would not take many big tows to get your $50,000 back, at least not if towing bills are what I remember them being during my time looking after fleets.

The last and best of the breed. This thing rules.
