Mudding is awesome simply because of the unpredictability involved. Going slow guarantees that you are going to have a bad time. Going fast isn’t a guarantee that you aren’t going to get stuck, but it is fun and you get to hear your engine at high RPM while moving mud by the cubic yard. If you get stuck, so be it…you were defeated. If you make it, you earn your moment of glory. And if you have a few friends and a mud pit set up at a place like the Virginia Motor Speedway, then you can count on all of the fun of competition: who will make it to the end of the course, who will sink the fastest, who will break, and so on. Here, the contestants were lined up on one pit, which had deep and shallow ports to hang up the drivers and a mud consistency like that of a thick milkshake.
