Gravel Slinging Action Photos From Gravelrama 2013 As A Primer To Get You Hyped For Gravelrama 2014!

(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – (Editor’s note: I have been thoroughly obsessed with the idea of attending Gravelrama since literally the time I could read. Why? I learned to read on Petersen’s 4-Wheel and Off Road Magazine and those guys covered the event each year. Part party, part race, and all fun this thing has been going on for four decades. Yes, there are events crazier, trucks faster, hills steeper, but let’s be honest here for a second. There was no such thing as “rock bouncing” when Gravelrama started and the world didn’t learn about Icelandic Formula Off Road until YouTube opened all of our eyes to it. This is the grand-daddy of all that stuff and Doug Gregory goes every year with his kids. He was there last year and shot these photos. We’re running year old photos to let you know that Gravelrama 2014 is coming up in about exactly a month from now. Cleves, Ohio will be teaming with killer trucks, race vehicles, and all the greatness you’d expect from this festival of horsepower, beer, and fun that has been going strong since Nixon was in office. Gregory, I am officially JEALOUS of you and your boys. I’ll make a vow to get there next year and this time, I mean it! – Brian)

Just a few of the better shots from Big Eliminator and truck show at Gravelrama. The event is coming up quick so this is just a taste of the action to behold. There are uphill drags, flat drags, an obstacle course, and the big daddy of them all, The Big Eliminator Hill. This is one of the longest-running off road events in the country and it’s a must-do that should be on every gearhead’s bucket list. I’ve taken my boys the last three years and its always been a good time.
(For those of you who don’t know what the Big Eliminator hill is, the event culminates with runs up a 300ft tall pea gravel hill that is about as steep as the side of your house. Racers charge up the hill and then are started further and further up toward the top to make things more difficult. Bigfoot 1 climbed the monster in the 1980s and it remains one of the coolest pieces of video in the history of mankind.)
