Gravelrama 2015 Flat Drags Action: More Dirt Chucking Fun From Cleves, Ohio

(Words and photos by Doug Gregory) – My son Taylor and I have determined that the flat drags is now nearly in a position to take over as our favorite at Gravelrama.  The big hill still gets the nod for number one.  With the organizers giving us great access to shoot photos we managed to steal some decent shots throughout the day.  I have been to many mud races and even some sand drags, but this is rock and rock being thrown at you by these machines hurts.

The lanes are wide and these folks line up wherever they think is the best path and then squirm all over as the scoopers claw for traction.  Wheelies at the hit are not all that common.  Typically they start to lift the front tires about 10-20ft off the line.  Some will carry them just barely off the surface for the length of the track.  The quicker times are in the high 3s with speeds over 100mph on a surface that is not firm.  Though it might seem the formula for getting down the track would be the same among most, there really are a lot of different setups for getting it done.  Regardless, its all amazing and exciting to watch.

Enjoy.
