So the guys at Wolfgang International are some of the most lunatic hardcore VW guys in the world. Because we have personal issues, we’re running this video today and the one we actually went looking for of their nitro burning front engine VW dragster tomorrow. See, we were going to run the dragster video today because it rules and the thing sounds like the end of the world but we found this video of the ramp truck they call “Stretchy” at work and it is so freaking cool we just had to get it out in front of you now.
People call these things different names depending on where you live around the country. Roll backs, haulers, and ramp trucks are just a few. In my neck of the woods ramp truck is pretty common vernacular and the simple fact is that Stretchy is a literal ramp truck. It is not a truck with a ramp that articulates off of it, nope the truck itself becomes the damned ramp. How?
What it looks like to us is that the “kickstand” that holds the truck into position is hydraulically controlled. Just the smooth way it retracts and lowers the rig indicates that it is not air or electric but hydraulic. We’ll probably be wrong with observation so if you know better, fill us in. We have no other specifics about the truck like what engine it has (c’amon, it has a VW engine!) or how much stretch was put into the thing or how it was done, or what chassis it is on, or whether or not they would be made at us if we snuck up and made it do a permanent wheelie for fun. We don’t know any of that stuff but it is all immaterial because the proof is in the visual pudding, which is watching this thing load the altered with a stretched wheelbase on its back.
Perfect is such and overused word, but this is freaking perfect.
awesome, but I’m a biased vw fanboi, lol
Those look very much like ramps to me.
a standard rollback tow truck doesn’t need ramps at all
My brother and I raced this car 20 years ago. We had lost track of it great to see it is still racing.
