So over in the Middle East they run these crazy dune trucks where guys run up these huge dunes agains the clock to see who can scale them fastest. Horsepower is obviously the order of the day and there are many different ways to skin that cat. Some guys run big V6 engines, some run V8s, and lots run inline engines like the boosted Toyota mill in this truck. We think that before it was destroyed this thing was a Toyota 1FE NOT a 2JZ. Someone in readerville will be able to look at this and either tell us we’re dumb and wong or that we are brilliant and correct. Either way, by the end of this video, the engine is a dead player for certain.
We don’t know if any pulls were made prior to the disaster you’ll see here but we can tell you that this sucker went out with its boots on. It looks to us like that thing lifts the cylinder head at big RPM because of all the water flowing out of it. As the head lifts likely one or two bores get water in them and when the piston tries to compress water…well, that’s when things go from bad to Hindenburg.
Chunks of the engine go flying, the thing stops immediately and before the dripping stops an intrepid camera man approaches the truck and gives us one of the more astonishing shots we have seen in some time. You can literally see right through the block! The connecting rod sawed two massive holes right through the sides of this thing and it likely wouldn’t take much more than a chisel and a couple of taps to break the rest of the block like a vase. Wow!
We have seen plenty of stuff get wrecked but being able to look through a block? That’s beyond radical!
Yep that’s a 1FZ. They came out in the 80 Series in late 92, I have one!
The motor in my 80 is designated a 1FZFE, the FE tells that it’s a fuel injected motor, just an F is the carby version.
Yeah, that’s a 1FZ-FE.
Great motor.
Holy ventilation Batman!
If Wody would have spent a little more time on engine prep and less time painting shit that don’t need to be painted, this would have never happened. Keep the Rice Krispie videos coming. Love ’em.
He needs to call nelson racing in california usa.that guy builds some sick and reliable turbo motors.
Looks like the fuel system springs a leak and starts to geyser immediately before the engine grenades. The “Sub Zero” tank above the front right fender is the fuel canister, presumably a surge tank under fuel rail pressure. Watch the dyno pull and see that it’s pee’ing a pretty big stream of fuel, enough to drop the pressure and go lean.
That sir is some excellent post-mortem sleuthing on the cause of death. Having grenaded my 2 stroke motorcycle in the dyno by allowing it to briefly go lean, I’m sure you’re right.
