When it comes to questions we have always had, the fact that Ford did not make a station wagon model of the Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis to compete against the Caprice, Roadmaster, and others during the early and middle 1990s has stuck with us. After getting tipped off to this car for sale on eBay by reader John Thompson, we’re even more inclined to think that they missed the boat! According to the ad, this car was built by an Industrial Arts teacher. He started with a very low mileage Mercury Grand Marquis that had been rear ended and grafted the Mercury Sable roof onto the back, melding the two cars in such a seamless way it seems freaking factory. This literally looks like something that could have been built as a test mule, auto show concept, or engineering exercise. Normally stuff like this is a disaster but instead this car is amazing.
With only about 44,000 miles on the clock, there’s still a lot of miles left to be driven in this car. Yes, it has a couple of spots that need some attention but that’s all cosmetic. The rear bumper fascia has a hole that needs repaired, thete’s some molding that needs to be glued back on the side, and we’re not huge fans of the wheels. That’s our list of complaints and they are minor as hell.
Mechanically you have the modular 4.6L engine that came in the car stock. Everything about the Grand Marquis is stock aside from the roof and rear hatch and boy is that underselling it by a lot, right? Look at the way he made the rear hatch work and how he integrated the parts of the Grand Marquis back into it. This is some brilliant stuff and the overall shape is very reminiscent of the Buick Roadmasters and Caprices of the 1992-1996 era. Man this thing is cool!

WOW ! …. Gimmie gimmie gimmie
Where are the Grizwalds?
Is nothing sacred?
A Ford barf-wagon?
This one looks like the result of a should we say heated moment between a sedan and a station wagon and shoulda been crushed at birth…
I love the idea and am like 60% there on the execution. IF it were me I’d have pushed the wagon section back the last 4-5in to make it fall down normally like a wagon tailgate is supposed to and extend the blank blacked out C-pillar those last inches. If its because the MGM roof ended where he started the roof… obviously the guy can (or knows someone who can) fab so getting a roof section off of a junkyard car to bridge the gap is hardly an obstacle either.
Last Ford wagon was 1991 – after camping w/ 2 kids + wife in a 1984
Crown Vic ( the thing held SO much crap it was amazing ! )
I wanted one of the 91’s – all the suspension etc was the same as CV ‘s
so upgrades would have been easy .. Ended up w/ a Caravan ……oh well
