Tonight there is going to be a PowerBall drawing for approximately eleventeen kabillion dollars and many of you out there think that you are going to win. That’s good thing for the Powerball people, but we digress. We think we’re going to win as well and we’re already spending the hundreds of millions of dollars on stuff that we’d absolutely need to get by like this massive 1974 Idaho-Norland snow blower that is powered by an awesome 12V-71 Detroit Diesel making more than 500hp. With the ability to move some 6,000 tons of snow and hour, it’ll heave the white stuff up to 150′ in whatever direction you want it to. For those of you that know us, you know that purchasing this beauty is no idle threat. While it may be unwieldy in our driveway, blowing the windows out of all the neighbors homes while clearing the street could be a fun story to tell the grandkids.
In all seriousness, this is a cool and pretty rare machine. The Idaho-Norland company made it into the middle 1970s before it was bought by a German company and operated under different name. The bad news is that the German outfit also went under and it seemed like the end for a company that employed a bunch of people in a small Idaho city. Such was not the case as Bruce Burtenshaw scooped up what was left of the outfit and brought it roaring back to life as Kodiak Northwest. The company is still thriving in Idaho and their line has expanded to interesting avenues like custom tour buses for hard terrains and other neat stuff.
We love the fact that this machine has the huge Detroit Diesel in it and while it likely wasn’t much fun to spend a lot of time in clearing a runway, it sure looks the business and we have to imagine shooting tons and tons of snow 150′ through the air has to be pretty fun, right? We’d LOVE to find out.

In the UK there is a record National Lottery jackpot up for grabs tonight as well – it makes me think that when ticket sales start falling off they rig it so nobody wins it outright and the rollover reaches staggering proportions.
I I won, I certainly wouldn’t waste any money on this thing – we hardly ever get enough snow in the UK to have any fun at all destroying it in such a cool way!
