There are certain things that ring iconic no matter what form we see them in. The Coke bottle, the American flag, and in the world of racing, the “Gulf livery”. That pale blue base paint with the bright orange stripe and accents has been stopping people in their tracks since it first appeared in the 1960s. Having appeared on such legendary cars as the Ford GT40s, multiple Porsches, Aston Martins, and more, it looks freaking great on everything. Well, one wacky guy decided to see what it would look like on a 1978 E-Series van and guess what? We think it looks boss!
This van is pretty sweet and it is for sale on eBay right at this very moment. Wearing some of the finest period 1970s wheels we have seen, packing a 300ci inline Ford six banger for maximum reliability, and backed with a four speed manual transmission, this is BangShifty all the way. Did we forget the mention the flared fenders and the air dam in the front? There’s also the cool air inlet slots below the front grill of the vanimal.
The icing on the cake is the seller of the van. This guy is serious about cool vanning and has four of his own machines for sale right now. He’s saying that he doesn’t need to part with them all but the heard needs a good thinning. Taking this one, finishing off the inside and adding a crate small block with about 400hp would be pure awesome for us. We’re not sure what transmission is living behind the 300ci inliner but we’re thinking a top loader upgrade would be in order.
We’re guessing everyone else hates it.

Add side pipes and cold AC and I would rock it!
a/c is cold…side pipes are ordered!!
Just to be different fit a turbo, EFI and intercooler to the straight six. Then you would have the go alongside the show.
A thing of rare beauty and not an LS in sight!
After 100 or so cars this gets old
clever way to cover the rust repair on a factory ford baby blue van..
bring a magnet..
Don’t need to bring a magnet bring a knife there’s absolutely no rust on this Van! I am not a liar.
Go to the facebook page for the van, you can see pictures of the van completely rust-free the way I got it. I have no problems scraping through the pain to prove anybody that there’s nothing but metal below it. Have a awesome day!
if this van doesn\’t have rust repair, then fine,, but this type painting has been done to vans because of the lower panels being repaired, for years in the rustbelt..
some repaired correctly with metal, but most not.
sorry you took it the wrong way.. other than the color combo, this is a very common look on vans that have been repaired, and they don\’t want to repaint the whole thing..
This van is awesome I’ve seen it in person and Scott Benedict is one awesome man with many plans
Awesome Van and Owner!
Just want to say thanks Brian for writing this article about the van. I don’t feel like I did anything too special I just took a cool old paint Scheme and applied it to a cool old van. Thanks so much for the kind words in your article it’s really awesome to see someone else digging what I’ve done enough to put it out there and show other people. It’s the kid’s dream come true to see this here….i just want to creat things thake people smile and feel good. sincerly thank you so much. Scott B
I drove a few of these as a parts van for a Ford dealership and can say they aren’t the most comfortable riding vehicle. The paint job looks cool but vans just don’t peak my interest.
