(Photos by Dave Nutting) – As we are gearing up for today’s side-by-side racing action here at Red Bull Frozen Rush 2015 at Sunday River Ski Resort in Newry, Maine we wanted to share some photos from the pit area at the event. Because this is an “invitation only” type deal and because it is being held at a flipping ski resort on a mountain, the pits are a little different than you’d normally see at any other race. Instead of being out in the wide open elements, all the trucks are pitted in a huge tent with heat and cover from the snow and wind that is assaulting the rest of place.
Dave and I were able to sneak in before the masses got into the tent and that means some quality time with guys like Bryce Menzies, Ricky Johnson, Scott Douglas, Carl Renezeder, and a bunch of others. You’ll see some thrashing, some parts, and some of the cool tech behind these hardcore trucks have have 900hp small block (NASCAR style) engines, 20″ of wheel travel, and the meanest looking spiked BF Goodrich off-road tires you’ll see anywhere. Perhaps the neatest thing about these trucks is that outside of some basic specs, there is no template for how they must be built. Everyone has their own ideas on how to make suspensions work best, how to get these things to dig in and go the best, and how to place the tubes so that their truck will be a front runner. Each chassis is like a fingerprint and most of the teams build their own trucks in-house. Gearhead geek sweetness.
We’re heading to the mountain….check these photos out!
Chard Hord looks like Lohnes’ long lost twin cousin!
Are these similar to stadium trucks?
Yes
