(Because of the rainout of Bonneville, we’re running some stuff that would be of use or fun on the water logged Salt Flats today.) Virtually every day of my life I am confronted with situations that an amphibious boat would be perfect for. That’s a huge lie of course, but I have been trying to concoct massive numbers of “scenarios” that would convince my wife that we needed one. All of these efforts have proven themselves to be fruitless to this point but I’ll keep working because after watching this promotional film for the Sealegs amphibious boat which is made in Australia. As you will see, the boat has three retractable wheels and can drive right into the water. The large tires allow it to have some all-terrain capability and the transition between truck and boat is completely seamless.
These boats were developed to be used by first responders and rescue workers. Guys like the Coast Guard and others who need to get into tough areas or weird places to help people in distress. The boat can drive at a shockingly fast 6-mph on land (that’s a joke…not the speed but the fast part) and it’ll move out at almost 10 times that speed in the water with a powerful outboard engine.
The boat shown in this video is setup for fishing and for ownership by a sportsman who wants to get themselves into places where a typical truck/trailer combo couldn’t get to. Think of all the ponds, rivers, streams, and other cool fishin’ holes you could experience that don’t have a boat ramp or anything other than a dirt banking that this baby would allow you to drive down and float away.
We have no pricing information on these but we’re guessing these are expensive. The company has been making them for some time so this isn’t something that’s a “concept”. You can buy one right now if you want and they sell the normal (non-cammo) versions all over the world. DO WANT!

Price per pound for that fish might be HIGH! I could hook up my boat trailer, stop for gas, McD’s , bait and talk with the boys and still beat that heap to the water.
One thing you could try is that you’d be able to sell the boat trailer. Just don’t tell her you might need a car tag on it.
They’re actually made here in New Zealand which is not part of Australia (it’s a bit like saying that the US is part of Canada). 🙂
