Now this is a day at the drags for diesels we could really get behind. No offense meant to the 3/4 and one-ton pickup crowd, but when we see a GMC Astro 95 boiling it’s hides off like a blown Chevelle, we are sold hook, line and sinker. And that’s just one aspect of what could be seen at Truck Mania…dump trucks battling each other, semi tractors, a utility rig, and just because things aren’t interesting enough, a pair of International school busses pairing off at the starting line. The best thing: all of these rigs have plates, registrations, and DOT-approved tires. There’s no race-only gear here! If you think that the days of the fast semi-tractor ended when Cledus Snow delivered Coors beer, then you’ve got another thing coming. It just goes to show you: if it has an engine and tires, sooner or later, it will be raced in some form or another. Now, if we could only get the truckers to bring their trailers on the track and run them like they do in Canada…
This past weekend the XDP Crew headed down to Maryland International Raceway, in Mechanicsville, Maryland for the 22nd Annual XDP Truck Mania. The day was action packed with drag racing, a show n shine contest, dyno shootout, school bus races for the kids, jet dragster, burnout contest, and of course the daisy dukes contest to close out the day
